AT-24-03: Ocean Environmental Monitoring and Sound Propagation Study at Mid-Atlantic Shelfbreak Offshore Wind Area
The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) is seeking applications for a cooperative agreement to conduct an "Ocean Environmental Monitoring and Sound Propagation Study at Mid-Atlantic Shelfbreak Offshore Wind Area". The study aims to deploy acoustic sensors near the National Science Foundation's Pioneer Array ocean observation platform to collect active and passive acoustic datasets and conduct sound propagation measurements. The objectives are to understand mesoscale and sub-mesoscale oceanographic dynamics and ecosystem effects related to offshore wind development, provide validation for BOEM's regional sound propagation models, and gather information on the presence and abundance of plankton, fish, and marine mammals near offshore wind farm areas. Eligible applicants include state governments, public higher education institutions, and other eligible organizations. Applications are due by June 13, 2024. BOEM has up to $3 million available for this 48-month cooperative agreement and anticipates making a single award. The study will take place in the mid-Atlantic shelfbreak region, with the acoustic sensors deployed near the NSF's Pioneer Array.
