The Cooperative Agreement award L25AC00111 from the Department of the Interior's Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in the amount of $143,300.00 will enable CyArk, a non-profit organization, to partner with the Arborglyph Collaborative to document and preserve culturally significant carvings called arborglyphs found on quaking aspen trees in Lincoln County, Nevada. The project will utilize advanced 3D documentation techniques like LiDAR scanning and photogrammetry to create a comprehensive digital record of the arborglyphs, which will be published on the OpenHeritage3D.org platform. Additionally, the award will fund the development of three immersive virtual tours that will combine the 3D models, video interviews, and multimedia content to engage the public and foster understanding of the Basque immigrant history and cultural heritage represented by these unique carvings. The project is funded through the BLM's Eastern Nevada Conservation, Recreation and Development program (CFDA 15.017) and is expected to be completed by December 2027.
