The Nevada System of Higher Education Research Administration Services and Compliance Division, operating as the Desert Research Institute (DRI), has been awarded a $188,926 cooperative agreement from the Department of the Interior Bureau of Land Management (CFDA 15.017 Eastern Nevada Conservation, Recreation and Development) to create virtual outdoor experiences (VOEs) for five archaeological sites in Lincoln County, Nevada. The VOEs will consist of 360-degree virtual walking tours and associated interpretive story maps that will provide free and equitable public access to these sites via the internet. The project will develop two story maps containing the five virtual tours, which will then be hosted on the websites of the relevant BLM field offices and district. This initiative aims to make these significant archaeological resources accessible to the public and school districts in Nevada, especially those who may face physical, economic, or logistical limitations to visiting the sites in person.
