This Project Grant award from the USDA Forest Service under the Inflation Reduction Act Urban & Community Forestry Program (CFDA 10.727) provides $9,000,000 to fund projects that advance environmental justice through urban and community forestry initiatives across Ohio. The funding will support the following key services: Planting of over 1,250 large-class, climate-resilient street trees in disadvantaged neighborhoods in Columbus, Ohio to mitigate urban heat island effects and improve quality of life. Removal, pruning, and planting of trees in disadvantaged areas of the cities of Hamilton, Lakemore, Painesville, Parma Heights, Sidney, and Tiffin to address priority risks and enhance tree canopy. Development of urban forestry management plans, tree inventories, and staff training for several cities and villages to strengthen their urban forestry programs and ensure long-term sustainability. The grant includes sub awards to local government entities such as municipalities and counties to carry out these urban forestry projects and initiatives in their communities.
