About Urban Sustainability Directors Network

The Urban Sustainability Directors Network (USDN) is a peer-to-peer network of local government professionals from cities across the United States and Canada dedicated to creating a healthier environment, economic prosperity, and increased social equity. USDN is a non-profit organization registered to receive federal grant awards.

Through recent federal grant awards, USDN has provided services and technical assistance to support urban forestry, sustainable community development, and capacity building for local governments to access federal funding opportunities. Under a $28 million Cooperative Agreement from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service's Urban & Community Forestry Program, USDN is working to accelerate urban forestry as an equity-centered climate action and sustainable community development strategy over a 5-year period. Additionally, USDN received an $800,992 Cooperative Agreement from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Environmental Finance Center Grants program to support the Environmental Finance Center at the Southeast Sustainability Directors Network. This 5-year project involves providing direct services, technical assistance, training, webinars, resource libraries, and best practice guides to help local and tribal governments identify federal funding opportunities, understand solicitation requirements, and develop competitive proposals. The intended beneficiaries include disadvantaged communities. USDN also received a sub-award from The Hawaii Community Foundation to support a fellowship program addressing workforce development needs in Hawaii's water sector.
