The U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service awarded a $1,126,500 Project Grant to the Washington State Department of Natural Resources under the State & Private Forestry Hazardous Fuel Reduction Program (CFDA 10.697). The grant will support the Washington State National Fire Plan Wildland-Urban Interface Hazardous Fuel and Community Assistance Program from August 2021 through August 2026. The program aims to reduce hazardous fuels on forests, woodlands, shrublands, and grasslands to lessen the undesired effects of large, destructive wildfires. Specifically, the Washington State Department of Natural Resources will deliver services focused on reducing wildland fire risk and long-term damage to resources through hazardous fuel reduction activities in wildland-urban interface areas through August 2026.

The Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) was awarded a $1,126,500 Project Grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service under the State & Private Forestry Hazardous Fuel Reduction Program (CFDA 10.697). The grant, awarded on Sep 28, 2023, supports a range of services focused on mitigating hazardous fuels, such as implementing fuel treatments, conducting prescribed burns, performing landscape assessments, and developing action plans to improve forest health and community wildfire protection across Oregon. As part of this grant, ODF is providing $157,800 in sub-awards to the Douglas Forest Protective Association, a non-profit organization, to implement 140 acres of hazardous fuels treatments and provide wildfire education/outreach to landowners in the Upper Cow Creek community in southern Douglas County. This aligns with the broader goals of the Hazardous Fuels Program to treat up to 30 million acres of federal, state, tribal, and private lands to restore fire-resilient landscapes and create fire-adapted communities.
