About this opportunity
The Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Board of Education is soliciting sealed bids for a generator replacement project at Winston Salem Preparatory Academy. This single-prime electrical contractor procurement requires comprehensive furnishing of labor, materials, and equipment for a complete generator installation. The project involves installing a new 400kVA/480Y/277V gas generator with an automatic transfer switch, transformer, and associated electrical distribution panels in the school's basement boiler room. Key deliverables include full electrical system modifications, compliance with federal, state, and local electrical codes, and potential installation of a 6-foot high chain link fence with a lockable door as an add alternate. The bid solicitation requires a performance and payment bond for 100% of the contract price, with contractors needing to provide proof of General Liability and Workers' Compensation insurance. A mandatory pre-bid meeting is scheduled for January 30, 2025, at 2:00 pm at the school's main office, with sealed bids due on February 13, 2025, at 2:00 pm at the Reginald Teague Maintenance Office. The project has two potential completion timelines: August 1, 2025, if electrical components are available by May 1, 2025, or January 3, 2026, if components are delayed.
The procurement encourages minority business enterprise (MWBE) participation, with a recommended minimum of 10% involvement. Bidders must identify minority business participation on their proposal and possess proper licensing as required by state law. Contractors will be required to obtain all necessary permits for the project. A $10,000 contingency is included in the total bid price, and payment terms stipulate 95% of monthly estimates with final payment upon project completion and acceptance. Bid proposals must remain valid for 60 days after submission. Interested contractors can obtain complete bidding documents electronically from Consultant Engineering Service, Inc. by emailing lindsey@ceseng.net. While no specific budget range is explicitly stated, the comprehensive electrical and mechanical specifications, including the 400kVA generator, transformer, and associated infrastructure modifications, suggest a significant capital investment for this school facility improvement project.
