About this opportunity

The County of Orange, through Orange County Information Technology (OCIT), is issuing a Request for Information (RFI) for a comprehensive Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) solution to supplement and/or replace their current desktop infrastructure. The procurement seeks a vendor capable of providing a modern VDI architecture supporting a minimum of 500 concurrent users across multiple client devices and agency environments. Key deliverables include a solution that supports zero-client and client-based technologies, with robust capabilities for virtualization, multi-device compatibility, and Bring-Your-Own-Device (BYOD) functionality. Critical technical requirements include advanced security features such as multi-factor authentication, encryption, seamless integration with existing IT infrastructure, and scalability. Vendors must provide detailed implementation services, comprehensive staff training, ongoing technical support, and maintenance. The RFI timeline includes several critical dates: August 1, 2024 (RFI release), August 15, 2024 at 3:00 pm (question submission deadline), August 22, 2024 at 3:00 pm (proposal due date), and August 29, 2024 (vendor demonstration). All submissions must be electronic PDF copies uploaded to the county's online bidding system.

While no specific set-aside designations or vendor restrictions are explicitly mentioned, the RFI emphasizes that vendors must have a proven track record of delivering VDI solutions to similarly sized organizations and must have infrastructure located within the United States. The county is seeking comprehensive proposals that include detailed company information, solution descriptions, and pricing structures. Although no specific budget range is provided, the scope suggests a significant technology investment considering the requirement to support 500 concurrent users and multiple agency environments. The RFI appears to be an exploratory process to understand market trends and available options, with no immediate guarantee of contract award. Vendors are expected to demonstrate their capability to meet comprehensive technical, security, and service requirements, including compliance with county policies, integration capabilities, and long-term support strategies for the proposed VDI solution.
