About this opportunity

Burke County, North Carolina is requesting proposals from a qualified General Contractor for trail improvement and construction, with proposals due November 18, 2026. NCDOT prequalification is mandatory — a decision-flipping eligibility requirement that filters the bidder pool immediately.

The scope encompasses approximately 1.75 miles (9,240 linear feet) of existing trail rehabilitation and approximately 2.2 miles (11,616 linear feet) of new trail construction within 30 feet of flagged corridor and recorded easement boundaries. Rehabilitation work includes an NCDOT-approved crossing of NC Highway 126 with a Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon, associated signage, trailhead improvements, four private road crossings with improvements and signage, and rehabilitation or enhancement of an existing bridge structure. New trail construction requires implementation of an NCDEQ-approved Erosion & Sediment Control plan and measures, plus installation of a stream crossing using a USFS modified wood stringer bridge. The contractor bears responsibility for all materials and equipment. Demonstrated trail building experience is required. All work must comply with specified guidelines and generally acceptable trail building practices.

The source document does not specify estimated contract value, contract term, evaluation criteria, pre-bid meeting or site visit dates, question deadline, incumbent contractor information, or other timeline details beyond the November 18 proposal due date.
