About this opportunity
The Town of Farmington, Connecticut is requesting qualifications for architectural, design, and related engineering services to provide schematic design and construction cost estimates for a three-station fire station project (East Farms, Tunxis Hose, and Farmington), with proposals due September 18, 2026 at 12:00 PM EDT and a mandatory walk-through at all three locations on August 31, 2026.
The selected firm must be a Connecticut-registered architectural firm with demonstrated experience on at least two completed fire station facility projects involving new construction or renovation, and experience in LEED or similar energy-efficient design strategies. References for at least two comparable projects from other local municipalities are required. All three stations are subject to schematic design and cost estimation; East Farms and Tunxis Hose involve demolition and new construction; Farmington Station includes renovation with addition. Work is anticipated to be completed between October 2026 and January 2027.
The Town Council established a project budget range of $30 million to $35 million for all three locations combined. If the project passes referendum, the selected architect may be invited to continue with subsequent design phases contingent upon negotiation regarding scope, timing, and price. Compensation terms and fee proposals will be determined during the interview phase with shortlisted finalists.
The firm must carry professional liability insurance of $4 million per claim and in the aggregate, with $1 million Commercial General Liability limits, and shall include the Town as an additional insured. The contract will be based on AIA Document B133-2019 with the firm agreeing to execute without exception except as to price, scope, and time for post-referendum services. Questions are due September 8, 2026 at 4:30 PM EDT, with responses provided September 11, 2026. Proposals must include one original, twelve copies, and one electronic PDF copy; facsimile and email submissions are not accepted. Contact Kathryn Krajewski at krajewskik@farmington-ct.org or 860-675-2337.
