About this opportunity
South Dakota State University (SDSU) is seeking a single prime contractor for the Agricultural Heritage Museum Historic Roof Repairs project located in Brookings, South Dakota. The procurement involves comprehensive roof restoration for the museum, encompassing the removal, salvage, and reinstallation of approximately 12,000 square feet of existing French clay roofing tiles, ridge, and hip caps. The project requires complete deconstruction of existing roofing components, including roofing membrane, asphalt underlayment, and deteriorated decorative wood carpentry, followed by new construction integrating roofing membrane, underlayment, ice & water shield, copper flashing, copper gutters, 20% replacement clay roofing tiles, rough and ornamental carpentry, sealants, and exterior paint. Potential bidders must attend a mandatory pre-bid meeting scheduled for 1:00 PM on Thursday, April 18, 2024, and submit sealed bids by 2:00 PM on Thursday, April 25, 2024, to Christopher Gross, Project Manager, or Jonathan Meendering, Architect. The contractor will be required to commence work within 10 calendar days after the Notice to Proceed and substantially complete the project by October 25, 2024.
While no specific set-aside designations or restrictions on vendor qualifications are explicitly stated in the documentation, the project will be subject to standard procurement guidelines. The total project budget is anticipated to be under $800,000, with liquidated damages of $150 per calendar day assessed for project completion delays. The contract includes base bid pricing with potential additive and deductive alternates and unit pricing for quantity adjustments. Payment will be processed monthly, with final payment contingent upon complete project acceptance. Contractors should be prepared to demonstrate technical expertise in historic building restoration, specifically involving clay tile roofing, copper flashing, and preservation of historic architectural elements. Interested firms should carefully review the project manual and architectural drawings, which provide detailed specifications for the comprehensive roof restoration at the SDSU Agricultural Heritage Museum.
