About this opportunity

The Commonwealth of Kentucky, Department of Finance and Administration Cabinet, Division of Real Properties, is requesting bids for a mixed timber harvest and sale license on approximately 112.5 acres within the Clay Wildlife Management Area in Nicholas County, with bids due October 13, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. ET. A site visit prior to bid submission is encouraged.

The scope covers harvesting approximately 178.7 thousand board feet of sawtimber and timber products from six marked stands (L Shape, Horseshoe, Bat, Boomerang, Bonus, and Deferidor) containing hardwood species including white oak, northern red oak, sugar maple, black oak, and hickory. Timber inventory includes veneer-grade, grade 1, grade 2, grade 3, stave-grade, and tie/pallet-grade material. The successful bidder receives a two-year term from contract execution to complete all removal and restoration activities. Cutting operations are restricted to October 16 through March 31 annually under United States Fish and Wildlife Service regulations, with additional weekend restrictions in September and November to be specified upon award.

Bidders must submit a lump sum payment proposal for all timber products, less mandatory Wildlife and Forestry Equipment expenses of $45,356.34 and optional Wildlife Habitat Improvement credits up to $17,700 at $1,000 per acre for designated woodland creation areas. A performance bond of $10,000 and the full lump sum purchase price are due before logging operations commence.

Award selection is based 55% on bid amount and 45% on evaluation of prior work quality through landowner references from timber harvesting conducted within the past five years. Bidders must provide up to three references, demonstrate compliance with Kentucky Forest Conservation Act Best Management Practices, obtain approval for all ingress, egress, and skid trail locations, and assume responsibility for road maintenance, stream crossing protection, and restoration including seeding and water control structures. Contact Josh Frazier at (606) 356-9910 for site access or Wendell Harris at (502) 782-0360 for bid package questions.
