About this opportunity
The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources is requesting sealed bids for a mixed timber harvest and sale license on approximately 120.6 acres at the Clay Wildlife Management Area in Nicholas County, with bids due October 6, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
The harvest area comprises five timber stands totaling approximately 104.5 acres across zones designated L Shape, Horseshoe, Bat, Boomerang, and Bonus, with an estimated 178.7 MBF of sawtimber available. Timber species include white oak, northern red oak, black oak, sugar maple, hickories, black walnut, black cherry, and yellow poplar graded as veneer, Grade 1, Grade 2, Grade 3, stave, and tie/pallet material. Harvesting is permitted only during October 16 through March 31, with specific no-work weekends designated. The successful bidder must complete all timber removal within two years of license execution and maintain a Kentucky Master Logger on-site during operations. Compliance with Kentucky Forest Conservation Act best management practices, road and trail restoration to pre-harvest condition, and water quality and erosion control are mandatory.
Bidders submit a lump-sum payment proposal for all timber. A mandatory Wildlife and Forestry Equipment purchase of $46,356.34 is required; optional Wildlife Habitat Improvement credits are available at $1,000 per acre for up to 17,700 acres across three designated units. A $10,000 performance bond and full lump-sum purchase price must be paid before operations commence. Evaluation weights 55% to the bid amount and 45% to prior work quality based on up to three references from the past five years. A site visit prior to bid submission is encouraged. Public bid opening and telephonic conference access will be available. Contract award is made to the highest responsible bid proposal.
