About this opportunity

Taylor Public Schools is requesting bids on roof removal and replacement at Wareing Elementary (K-9 Academy), 24800 Hayes Street, Taylor, Michigan, under RFB# 26-75, with bids due October 28, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. and a mandatory pre-bid walkthrough on October 20 at 9:00 a.m. A 3% preferential credit applies to Taylor-based businesses in bid evaluation.

The scope covers complete removal of the existing aggregate-surfaced built-up roofing system and installation of a new three-ply cold-applied built-up asphalt roofing system on Roof A, totaling 11,550 square feet with a 1-inch-per-12-inch slope. The specification is based on Tremco roofing products and mandates compliance with NRCA and FM standards. The contractor must provide a qualified installer with a minimum of five years' experience. Work is restricted to 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, with 72 hours' notice required for activities affecting building operations; the facility remains occupied during construction. The contract includes a 20-year manufacturer's warranty and a 2-year installer's warranty. Five unit-price categories are established for potential change orders: deck material replacement, re-tap drain bolts, roof drain replacement, new clamping rings, and wood nailer replacement. Manufacturer's inspection services are included, scheduled for years 2, 5, 10, and 15 post-completion.

For bids exceeding $23,417, a bid bond or certified check equal to 5% of the bid amount is required. For bids exceeding $50,000, the successful bidder must furnish Performance and Labor Materials Payment Bonds, each at 100% of the accepted bid amount, from a surety with an A.M. Best Rating of B+ or better. All bidders must submit comprehensive insurance documentation (Workers' Compensation, Public Liability, Property Damage, Automobile Liability, and Contingent Liability) and certifications regarding familial relationships with school board members or the superintendent and compliance with the Iran Economic Sanctions Act, Act 517 of 2012. Questions are due by 11:00 a.m. on October 21. Bids remain irrevocable for ninety calendar days following bid period expiration. Award is subject to Board of Education approval.
