About this opportunity
The Utah Transit Authority is issuing a Request for Information on overhaul and modernization of passenger door systems for its Bombardier Bi-Level commuter rail fleet, with responses due September 9, 2026. This is a market-research vehicle only — not a procurement process and not a binding commitment to issue a formal RFP or make a purchase.
UTA operates 38 Bombardier Bi-Level commuter rail vehicles (20 Series 233 and 18 Series 246) with approximately 152 passenger doorways requiring modernization. The scope encompasses complete door overhaul services including mechanical assemblies, door panels, suspension components, locking systems, actuators, emergency release systems, control electronics, diagnostic and monitoring equipment, and lifecycle support. UTA prioritizes electrically actuated door-system solutions but explicitly invites feedback on alternative architectures including pneumatic, electro-pneumatic, and hybrid technologies.
The RFI seeks comprehensive industry input on modernization strategies, technical approaches, fleet standardization opportunities, reliability and availability targets, diagnostic and cybersecurity capabilities, software licensing models, installation and testing procedures, training requirements, spare parts provisioning, warranty coverage, project schedules, and commercial considerations. Respondents need not provide detailed or customized pricing; general cost estimates, ballpark figures, or standard pricing history are permitted.
An informational meeting is scheduled for July 27 through August 7, 2026, by appointment at Warm Springs Service Center in Salt Lake City. Written questions must be submitted through the Bonfire portal by August 26, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. local time. All responses are considered public records under Utah's Records Access Management Act. UTA does not commit to reimbursing expenses incurred by respondents. Inquiries should be directed to Timothy Da Silva, Sr. Strategic Sourcing Specialist, at tdasilva@rideuta.com.
