About this opportunity
The Town of Nantucket, Massachusetts is requesting sealed bids for repairs and improvements to the Town Pier at 34 Washington Street, with bids due October 29, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. and a non-mandatory pre-bid meeting and site tour on October 1, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at the Harbormaster's Office. Massachusetts prevailing wage rates apply; the contract will be awarded to the lowest responsible and eligible bidder under Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 149, Sections 44A-44H and Chapter 30, Section 39M.
The base bid scope includes selective demolition and replacement of damaged structural components: removal and replacement of 33 damaged or missing breakwater timber batter boards, installation of new 4-inch by 6-inch timber wales, reattachment of round and square timber fender piles, and replacement of 100 feet of 3-inch diameter electrical conduit and cable. Bid Alternate #1 covers transportation and installation of two replacement concrete floats currently stored in New Bedford, Massachusetts. All timber must be Southern Pine No. 1 or better with preservative pressure treatment meeting AWPA specifications for marine exposure; all structural steel must comply with ASTM A572 Grade 50 and be epoxy-coated and galvanized. Precast concrete floating docks are supplied by Robert B. Our Co., Inc. and delivered via barge; the contractor receives, handles, stores, and installs them per manufacturer specifications. The contractor is responsible for construction sequencing, temporary erosion and sedimentation control, field engineering, utility coordination, and all safety and structural stability during construction. All in-water, silt-producing activities must be completed before January 15, 2023 per environmental permit conditions; final completion is due May 1, 2023.
Each bid requires 5% bid security (certified check, treasurer's check, or bid bond). The selected contractor must furnish performance and payment bonds equal to 100% of the contract price and maintain Workers' Compensation, Commercial General Liability ($1 million per occurrence), Commercial Auto Liability ($1 million), and Umbrella Liability ($10 million). A 12-month warranty period is required. Electronic bids are submitted via https://procurement.opengov.com/portal/nantucket. Contract award is contingent upon available funding and Town approval.
