About this opportunity
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is requesting proposals for the Munuscong Culvert Replacement Project Site 1, located in Chippewa County, with proposals due July 2, 2026. The project is a civil infrastructure improvement involving removal and replacement of culverts at a state wildlife management area site.
The scope requires removal of two existing 30-inch diameter culverts and installation of a new 64-inch wide by 43-inch tall by 36-foot long corrugated steel pipe arch culvert. The contractor must perform site preparation, excavation, culvert installation with proper inlet and outlet placement, fill placement and compaction, geotextile fabric installation, and rock riprap placement for stabilization. The contractor supplies all materials, equipment, labor, silt fence, geotextile fabric, rock riprap, and fill; manages water control to prevent upstream flooding; and handles disposal of existing metal structures and removal of excess fill. All work must be completed by September 30, 2026, with invoicing due by October 6, 2026.
Prior to commencement, the contractor must submit a soil erosion and sedimentation control plan for DNR approval. Work must occur during dry periods with minimal stream flow unless DNR authorizes otherwise. Any deviations from the EGLE permit require DNR coordination.
Michigan prevailing wage rates apply — rates range from $36.87 to $110.76 per hour depending on classification and worker level, effective through September 16, 2026. Contractors must comply with mandatory wage schedules for Chippewa County covering 47 job classifications.
The DNR may award a contract for Site 1 only or Site 2 only based on budget availability, with Site 1 designated as the priority. The agency reserves the right to refuse any or all bids and is not required to select the minimum bid. Work at the two sites must be coordinated so one site remains passable by two-wheel drive vehicle before the other becomes impassible.
