About this opportunity
The City of Fairburn, Georgia is soliciting artists to design and paint creative crosswalks at four designated public locations, with proposals due July 21, 2022. The City awarded $3,200 per crosswalk location upon selection on September 12, 2022.
Eligible artists must be at least 18 years old with 1–3 years of experience painting murals, crosswalks, or other public artworks and must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Artists may submit up to four designs—one per location—with each design evaluated separately. Locations are Fairburn Youth Center (149 West Broad Street), Duncan Park (6000 Rivertown Road), Landmark Christian School (50 West Broad Street), and Campbell Elementary School (91 Elder Street).
Proposed artwork must be original and scaled to cover the full length and width of each crosswalk. Designs must be monochromatic or contain no more than six colors and cannot include profanity, nudity, gang symbols, political or religious content, advertisements, or offensive material. All installations must use exterior acrylic latex-based paint followed by a non-skid/slip-resistant sealant and a final grip paint coat; oil-based paints are prohibited. Artists may work independently or collaborate with volunteers, local schools, or community organizations during installation.
The project is framed as a community pride initiative to transform ordinary crosswalks into vibrant public artworks. All work is subject to inspection and approval by the City of Fairburn and must comply with applicable Georgia law.
