About this opportunity

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) District 3 is requesting bids on ten metal storage containers through BidBuy, with proposals due August 10, 2026. This is a one-time small purchase with no set-asides or minority business utilization requirements, open to all registered vendors.

The scope comprises four delivery locations with mixed specifications: three 40-foot by 8-foot by 9-foot 6-inch containers and two 24-foot by 8-foot by 8-foot 6-inch containers (roll-up doors) for LaSalle Maintenance Yard; three 20-foot by 8-foot by 8-foot 6-inch containers for Ladd Maintenance Yard; and two 20-foot by 8-foot by 8-foot 6-inch containers for Ottawa Maintenance Yard. All containers must be weather-resistant, one-trip shipping units with Corten steel corrosion-resistant bodies, reinforced steel security doors with anti-theft mechanisms, high-grade rubber weathertight seals, and marine-grade plywood flooring (minimum 1.1 inches). Floor load capacity must support 4,800 pounds per square meter. A minimum 10-year warranty covering structural defects, corrosion, manufacturing issues, and weld integrity is required, with the vendor performing all covered repairs directly. Equipment must be newly manufactured, current models in production at contract execution, and equipped with manufacturer's standard warranties equivalent to or exceeding those offered to the general public. Vendors must submit product brochures and detailed specifications with bids.

The initial contract term runs from execution through June 30, 2027, with a maximum total duration not to exceed ten years. Delivery is F.O.B. destination during regular business hours (8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.) weekdays, with freight included in unit pricing. Contract pricing must remain firm for six months following execution; subsequent adjustments require written IDOT approval and formal amendment. The vendor must maintain General Commercial Liability insurance of $1 million per occurrence and $2 million annual aggregate, along with Auto Liability and Worker's Compensation coverage as required by law. Vendors are prohibited from subcontracting. Two rounds of Q&A were posted July 24, 2026.
