About this opportunity

The U.S. Forest Service is soliciting bids for hand-planting labor on approximately 73 acres of longleaf pine seedlings at Tuskegee National Forest in Macon County, Alabama, with proposals due November 2, 2026. This is a labor-only contract; the USFS will supply containerized longleaf pine seedlings for pickup at the Tuskegee work center.

The vendor must plant seedlings at 8-foot by 8-foot spacing (680 trees per acre) between December 1, 2026, and March 1, 2027. At least 90 percent of seedlings must be correctly planted per AFC's resource sheet "Planting Pine Seedlings," available on the AFC website. The site, clearcut in 2024 and 2025 and site-prep sprayed in early July 2026, will be subject to prescribed burning before planting.

The vendor is responsible for proper care and handling of seedlings while in custody, including maintaining plug integrity without loss of potting medium or desiccation during extraction and handling. The top of each plug should be slightly exposed above the soil surface after planting. Interested bidders may examine the tract at any time prior to proposal submission.
