About this opportunity

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency is requesting bids on 15,000 feet of bronze and alloy grooved contact wire under IFB No. SFMTA-2027-08-LOC, with bids due September 29, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. PDT and delivery required by October 4, 2026. A Local Business Enterprise (LBE) bid discount may apply to eligible bidders as assessed by the SFMTA's Contract Compliance Office. The First Source Hiring Program (Chapter 83, San Francisco Administrative Code) requires bidders to make good-faith efforts to hire economically disadvantaged San Francisco residents for new entry-level positions; non-compliance risks liquidated damages of up to $5,000 per position.

The specification is Southwire Bronze and Alloy (Alloy80) grooved contact wire, 2/0 AWG, figure 8 configuration, compliant with EN50149 railway application standards and ASTM B9. The wire must support high-tensile-strength requirements for reduced-clearance maintenance in tunnel applications and line speeds exceeding 200 mph. Substitute or alternative items will not be accepted. Delivery is F.O.B. destination (1580 Burke Avenue, San Francisco) with freight prepaid and scheduled between 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. or 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The SFMTA will award the purchase order to the lowest responsive bidder meeting stated minimum qualifications outlined in IFB Section V. Bidders must provide warranty information, lead time in days after receipt of order, and unit pricing inclusive of shipping and handling; sales tax at 8.625% will be calculated on the extended price. All goods must be new, unused, and of the manufacturer's latest model. The contractor must maintain Commercial General Liability Insurance of not less than $1,000,000 per occurrence and Workers' Compensation Insurance with Employers' Liability Limits of not less than $1,000,000. The procurement is subject to Buy America compliance and San Francisco ordinance requirements covering nondiscrimination, environmental standards, and wage and hour provisions. Bids will not be accepted through the City and County of San Francisco's Supplier Portal website.
