About this opportunity
California State Polytechnic University (Cal Poly SLO) is seeking proposals through Request for Proposal #202907367 for a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) development partner to design, install, operate, and own a battery storage infrastructure on campus. The procurement specifically targets a minimum 1 Megawatt, 4 Megawatt-hour energy storage system intended for peak shaving purposes. Proposers must register as a vendor with Cal Poly and submit their proposal through Public Purchase platform by October 15, 2025. This RFP is part of a two-part solicitation, with a separate RFP being issued for a Solar Photovoltaic (PV) System, though Cal Poly prefers a single entity to provide both services if possible. While the RFP does not explicitly detail evaluation criteria, vendors will likely be assessed on technical capabilities, system design, operational efficiency, and alignment with campus energy management goals. The project, identified as Project No. MJ0107, spans jurisdictions including San Luis Obispo County and San Francisco City in California.
The RFP does not specify explicit set-aside designations or restrictions for disadvantaged enterprises. No incumbent vendors or current contractors are mentioned in the provided documentation. While a precise award value is not disclosed, the technical specifications suggest a significant infrastructure investment centered on a 1 MW/4 MWh battery storage system. Potential proposers will need demonstrated expertise in energy storage system design, installation, and operational management. The solicitation indicates a preference for comprehensive energy solutions, with potential for an integrated solar and battery storage approach. Interested vendors must carefully review the full RFP documentation on the Public Purchase platform and complete the vendor registration process with Cal Poly to be considered for this energy infrastructure project.

To meet the needs of the campus, the size of the BESS being sought is a minimum of 1 Megawatt, 4 Megawatt hours. The Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is intended to be used to provide peak shaving. Proposers are advised that Cal Poly is issuing two separate Request for Proposals, one for the Solar Photovoltaic (PV) System, and one for a Battery Energy Storage System. Submittals for each RFP will be evaluated independently and in accordance with the criteria set forth in each RFP. However, it is Cal Poly¿s desire for one entity to provide both services described in these RFPs, if possible. Project No. MJ0107
