About this opportunity
Virginia Tech's Division of Information Technology is requesting proposals for an enterprise-wide endpoint backup software solution serving all university departments across campus, with proposals due July 15, 2026. The solution must be platform-agnostic and capable of protecting Windows, macOS, and Linux endpoints — both on-network and remote/off-network — with a SaaS deployment model and unlimited per-user storage.
The scope requires 46 core and 14 preferred requirements across endpoint coverage, backup behavior (continuous and incremental backup with ransomware recovery), restore and recovery (self-service and admin-initiated restore, point-in-time recovery, device replacement workflows), security and identity features (encryption, SSO/federation, MFA, role-based access control), deployment and administration (silent mass deployment, centralized policy management, delegated administration, coverage reporting), retention and governance (policy management, legal hold capabilities), and commercial terms. Preferred capabilities include mobile and tablet support, data residency options, hybrid storage configurations, encryption-key management, advanced analytics and APIs, dedicated technical account managers, and proof-of-concept availability. The solution must handle complex scenarios including shared workstations, labs, kiosks, multi-user environments, and delegated administration across organizational units.
This is a replacement procurement; the incumbent solution is CrashPlan. Vendors must address large-scale migration capabilities, transition support, and implementation and onboarding services with proposed timelines and cost details. Pricing submission must include base seat pricing per user, storage model specifications with any caps or overage charges, device counts per licensed user, charges for additional devices, dedicated technical support and Technical Account Manager costs, implementation and migration expenses, and a proposed transition timeline from CrashPlan, with clear disclosure of minimum commitments and renewal conditions. Vendors respond to requirements via a vendor response matrix indicating "Yes," "Partial," or "No" with delivery method (out-of-box, configuration, customization, or roadmap) and supporting evidence.
