About this opportunity

The State of Maine Department of Environmental Protection is requesting bids for fiberglass service bodies in single-rear-wheel configuration, with bids due June 23, 2010. In-state bidders or those offering commodities produced or manufactured in Maine receive tie-bid preference under State of Maine procurement rules.

The scope is a heavy-duty fiberglass composite service body with steel understructure, designed for installation on a 2011 Ford F350 Super Duty Cab & Chassis, with dimensions of 108 inches length, 78 inches width, and 60 inches interior headroom. Construction must include a 1/8-inch steel treadplate floor, fully undercoated steel wheel well liners, stainless-steel hardware throughout, and galvanized shelves rated for 250-pound capacity. Exterior finish is Ford paint code 84S53 School Bus Yellow with white or reflective gray interiors. The body must incorporate multiple compartments with specified street and curb-side layouts, FMVSS-compliant lighting with strobes and flood lights, an 8-inch steel treadplate step, Class IV drop receiver hitch with 7-way RV trailer connector, backup alarm, and DOT safety kit. Electrical connections must use heat shrink-sealed connections with heavy-duty wire loom protection; "Scotch-Lok" style connectors are prohibited.

The procurement seeks two units. Vehicle pickup, installation, and return to Configuration Fleet Management in Augusta are included as bid deliverables. Bidders must submit separate unit prices for each item. Awards are made to the lowest responsible bidder based on best value to the State, considering quality, conformity with specifications, delivery dates, and total cost. Cash discounts of 20 days or more are considered in determining the low bidder; shorter discounts are not factored into award decisions. All transportation charges must be prepaid by the contractor. The State of Maine is exempt from Federal and Maine State sales and use taxes; bids should exclude these amounts.
