About this opportunity

Los Fresnos Consolidated Independent School District is soliciting bids for fire alarm and fire sprinkler system upgrades at its Career and Technical Education facility, with proposals due October 28, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. and a pre-bid conference scheduled for October 14, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at the district's Main Office.

The scope encompasses fire alarm system installations across eight buildings (H, J, K, L, M, N, O, and P) ranging from 2,935 to 21,204 square feet, along with new wet-pipe sprinkler system installations in Buildings H and J. Work includes demolition of existing systems, installation of initiating and notification devices, underground raceways for system interconnection, and integration with existing building systems. The contractor must maintain the existing fire alarm system operational during school hours and coordinate work to minimize disruption to school operations, with primary scheduling for evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. All electrical, HVAC, and fire alarm systems must be operational by the next occupancy period following completion.

The base proposal includes a $20,000 contingency allowance. Two alternates are offered: Alternate #1 extends fire suppression systems to Buildings O and P; Alternate #2 provides emergency radio communication system expansion if radio signal testing indicates inadequate coverage, with a $10,000 contingency allowance per alternate. Substantial completion must be achieved by a contractor-specified date, with final completion required within 30 days thereafter. Liquidated damages apply at $500 per day for failure to achieve substantial completion, $250 per day between days 31–60 after substantial completion, and $500 per day beyond day 60.

The contractor must submit detailed submittal schedules, shop drawings, and product data for review and coordination with the district's engineering firm, Ethos Engineering. Proposals must remain valid for 60 days following opening. The district reserves the right to evaluate proposals based on weighted selection criteria beyond price alone and will document the basis of selection within seven days of contract award.
