About this opportunity

Miami-Dade County Department of Solid Waste is requesting qualifications for structural repair and recoating of corroded steel columns at the Northeast Transfer Station Truck Wash Building, with qualifications due August 14, 2026. The work centers on remediation of six corroded column bases and comprehensive corrosion treatment of the building's entire steel structure.

The scope includes removal and disposal of six corroded column bases to approximately two feet above concrete, with cutting of existing anchor bolts flush to concrete and galvanized-paint coating of exposed steel to prevent future corrosion. The project requires fabrication and installation of replacement steel stub columns with tapered sections, plates, support angles, diagonal bracing, and bolts, along with reinstallation of existing features supported by the columns. A reusable temporary bracket system using additional steel columns, beams, plates, angles, and bracing must support each column during base removal; adhesive permanent concrete anchors with non-shrink grout will secure both replacement and temporary elements. The recoating scope encompasses the entire steel structure and includes surface preparation, grinding, sandblasting, welding, and painting following corrosion remediation. The project also requires inspection for lead-based paint presence and lead abatement if found, plus repair of any structural defects discovered during construction. All work must comply with applicable building codes and engineering standards for steel fabrication and installation.

Prospective qualifiers must demonstrate relevant experience with structural steel repair, corrosion remediation, and surface preparation techniques. The RFQ document specifies technical requirements for the temporary support bracket system and establishes qualifications and experience criteria that prospective bidders must meet for consideration.
