About this opportunity
The Village of Schaumburg, Illinois, located in Cook County, is seeking proposals for a comprehensive Cloud Assessment project (RFP #2022-RFP-082) through its e-Procurement Portal. The primary objective is to evaluate the village's current virtual server and desktop infrastructure for potential cloud migration, focusing on analyzing approximately 130 virtual servers and 30 active VDI clients currently running on VMWare. The assessment must include an in-depth analysis of at least four cloud providers, creating a detailed cost analysis that covers estimated migration expenses, a 5-year total cost of ownership, and potential long-term savings. Key deliverables include a comprehensive migration plan that determines which infrastructure components are suitable and cost-effective for cloud transition. Proposal submissions are due by July 8, 2022, at 10:00 am, with a deadline for questions set for July 6, 2022. The Village maintains flexibility in its approach, reserving the right to procure hardware and software from various vendors to optimize cost savings.
The RFP does not explicitly specify set-aside designations or restrictions for disadvantaged enterprises. The current infrastructure is supported by two 1Gbit internet connections and village-owned 10Gbit fiber connecting three data centers, which will serve as the baseline for cloud migration evaluations. While no incumbent vendors are mentioned, the existing VMWare environment, including VMWare Horizon for VDI, will be a critical consideration in the assessment. The Village seeks a vendor capable of providing a comprehensive cloud migration strategy that can potentially reduce operational costs and improve infrastructure efficiency. Although a specific budget range is not disclosed, the complexity of assessing 130 virtual servers and developing a detailed 5-year cost projection suggests a significant investment in the consulting and migration planning process. Vendors will need to demonstrate expertise in cloud infrastructure assessment, migration planning, and cost optimization across multiple cloud service providers.
