About this opportunity
The state of Maryland, specifically involving Anne Arundel County and Baltimore City, is seeking a contractor for the BWI MARC Station Repairs project, a comprehensive construction and improvement initiative. The contract encompasses two primary scopes of work: first, pavement improvements involving removal, repair, and replacement of concrete pavement, installation of concrete speed humps, and repair of an existing inlet and culvert outfall; second, construction services for station door modifications including installation of a pre-procured Draft Air Curtain at the North entrance and ten automatic door openers for existing station vestibule and entry doors. The contractor will be responsible for retrieving the air curtain from an MTA storage facility and ensuring the automatic door operators are properly wired and coordinated with the Station Access Control and Systems Operation. The contract opportunity was posted on December 20, 2024, with a proposal due date of the same date, indicating a potentially expedited procurement process. Successful bidders must demonstrate technical capability to execute precise infrastructure improvements and integration of complex mechanical and electrical systems within the transit station environment.
While the documentation does not explicitly outline set-aside designations or vendor restrictions, the technical complexity of the project suggests a need for contractors with specialized transportation infrastructure and transit facility renovation experience. The project involves intricate work requiring expertise in concrete pavement reconstruction, mechanical door systems, and coordination with existing station infrastructure and control systems. No incumbent vendors are specifically identified in the available documentation. The scope implies a potentially significant infrastructure investment, though exact budget ranges are not specified in the provided materials. The multi-faceted nature of the project—involving both civil infrastructure repairs and mechanical systems installation—indicates that prime contractors with comprehensive construction capabilities and demonstrated experience in transit facility renovations would be most competitive. Potential bidders should be prepared to demonstrate technical proficiency, safety compliance, and the ability to coordinate complex installation requirements within an active transportation facility.
