About this opportunity

The Illinois Department of Transportation is soliciting submissions for the complete replacement of dual I-57 bridges at the Dongola Interchange, existing Structure Numbers 091-0003 and 091-0004, with a due date of November 6, 2026. The opportunity was posted October 21, 2026, and the Scope of Work document is attached as ildot 78A26-128.pdf.

The work replaces two three-span steel beam bridges with new five-span poured concrete deck structures on steel I-beams, designated 091-0079 and 091-0080. Each structure carries a 42-foot clear deck width with concrete parapets and sits on a 1.05 percent grade, with back-to-back abutments of 358 feet 9 inches. The design calls for a right forward skew, solid reinforced concrete piers, and integral abutments, built through stage construction. Roadway work includes concrete approach slabs, pavement connectors, PCC pavement and shoulders, guardrail, pavement marking, and seeding. Gross improvement length is 920 feet along I-57 northbound and 915 feet along I-57 southbound.

The structures cross Cypress Road and a tributary to Big Creek at the Dongola Interchange in Union County, Illinois. The posting lists Tazewell County as the jurisdiction, which does not match the project location described in the source.

The new structures (S.N. 091-0079 & 091-0080) will both have clear deck widths of 42-0 (44-10 out-out) with concrete parapets and will be skewed 4239 right forward and will be on a 1.05% grade and will be 358'-9 1/4" bk.-bk. abutments. The piers will be solid reinforced concrete, and the abutments will be solid reinforced concrete integral abutments. The structures will be built on a tangent within the large radius curve of the northbound I-57. The pavement will have a width of 24-0 and HMA shoulders that vary from 4-0 to 12'-0. The proposed structures will be built with stage construction. Roadway improvements include the construction of concrete approach slabs, pavement connectors, PCC pavement, and shoulders. The improvements also include guardrail, pavement marking, and seeding. The gross length of the improvement is 920.00 feet along I-57 northbound and 915.00 feet along l-57 southbound. Location: This project is located on I-57 where it crosses over Cypress Road and Tributary to Big Creek located at the Dongola Interchange in Union County.
