About this opportunity
The Illinois Department of Transportation is soliciting electronic bids through the iCX Integrated Contractors Exchange for surface preparation and painting of four steel structures over Interstate 172 in Adams County, with bids due November 6, 2026 at 12:00 p.m., when bids will be publicly opened. The project is federally funded through the National Highway Performance Program and requires Federal-aid compliance certifications and prevailing wage. Contractors must hold current SSPC-QP1 certification for non-lead abatement work and SSPC-QP2 certification for lead abatement, and this project requires lead paint containment and disposal procedures.
The work under Contract No. 72E90 (Project NHPP-Q9AF(146), Section D6 BP 2027, District 6) covers blasting and other surface preparation, painting of designated metal surfaces, and caulking at Structure Numbers 001-0058 (TR 551 over I-172), 001-0060 (TR 351A over I-172), 001-0061 (TR 114A over I-172), and 001-0048 (Columbus Road over I-172). The contractor furnishes all materials, equipment, and labor. Paint colors are specified: green (Munsell 7.5G 4/8) for fascia beam exteriors and bottoms, and gray (Munsell 5B 7/1) for all other surfaces.
Traffic control requires at least one lane of I-172 in each direction to remain open at all times. The contractor must coordinate with the District 6 Bureau of Operations at least 72 hours before beginning work and three weeks before implementing traffic control measures.
Within 30 days of contract execution, the contractor must submit a Quality Control Program, Surface Preparation/Painting Plan, Inspection Access Plan, and paint manufacturer certifications. A designated Quality Control inspector must be on-site full-time during all quality-affecting operations.
Payment is lump-sum per location, contingent on completing surface preparation and painting and submitting all Quality Control documentation. Award goes to the lowest responsive and responsible bidder, and IDOT reserves the right to reject any or all proposals.
