About this opportunity
The City of Covington, located in Newton County, Georgia, is soliciting sealed bids for the Floyd Street Resurfacing Project (#2025-11), which involves approximately 1.95 miles of asphaltic concrete patching, milling, and resurfacing. The comprehensive project requires contractors to perform traffic control, asphalt resurfacing, tack coat application, line painting, crosswalk and arrow installations, and adjusting manholes and valves. Prospective bidders must be prequalified with the Georgia Department of Transportation and must submit a 5% bid bond with their proposal. The mandatory pre-bid meeting is scheduled for May 22, 2025, at 10:00 AM in the Council/Court room at 2116 Stallings Street, Covington, GA, with sealed bids due by June 5, 2025, at 10:00 AM at City Hall, 2194 Emory Street NW. The contract period requires the selected contractor to commence work within 10 calendar days of the Notice to Proceed and complete the project within 60 calendar days. The City reserves the right to reject any and all bids and will award the contract to the best responsive and responsible bidder.
The procurement opportunity includes provisions for local vendor preference when quality, performance, and pricing are equal. Contractors must comply with various regulations, including the Civil Rights Act, E-Verify requirements, and non-discrimination policies. The project is part of the Newton County Shared Cost Initiative, which allows other participating agencies to potentially purchase identical items under the same contract terms. Upon award, the successful bidder will be required to provide a 100% performance and payment bond. While specific budget ranges are not explicitly detailed, the project scope suggests a significant infrastructure investment. The procurement does not specify explicit set-aside designations for disadvantaged enterprises, but standard federal and state regulations regarding equal opportunity and non-discrimination will apply. Interested contractors can access the full bid packet and additional information on the City of Covington's website at https://www.cityofcovington.org/index.php?section=business-opportunities.
