The Department of Veterans Affairs National Cemetery Administration is seeking applicants for its Veterans Legacy Grants Program to award funding of up to $400,000 per grantee. Eligible entities including institutions of higher education, educational institutions, local educational agencies, and non-profit organizations are invited to apply for grants to conduct cemetery research and produce educational materials related to Veterans interred in VA national cemeteries and VA-funded state and tribal veterans cemeteries. Applications will be evaluated based on plans for student and public outreach, research products developed, instructional materials created, and contributions to the Veterans Legacy Memorial database. Applications are due by April 1, 2024, with successful applicants to be notified by June 2024 to complete grant activities during fiscal year 2024.

The total amount available for award is $2.2 million, which will be distributed in individual grants of up to $400,000 each. Grantees will conduct the funded work at VA national cemeteries and VA-funded state and tribal veterans cemeteries where research and resulting educational materials will focus on the histories of Veterans interred at these locations. Competitive preference may be given to proposals researching and honoring underrepresented Veterans or developing sustainable initiatives.
