About this opportunity

This federal grant opportunity, titled "University Day", is issued by the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) under the Department of the Air Force Materiel Command. It seeks leading-edge research proposals from U.S. universities in two specific areas: Bioprincipic Systems and Weapon Autonomy and Control Technology Research. Applicants must choose to focus on only one of the two research areas and submit their proposals by May 21, 2025. Proposals will be evaluated based on technical merit, including innovation, understanding of technical objectives, soundness of approach, and potential for transitioning research to future government needs. Only those offerors meeting the highly selectable and/or selectable categories will be invited to a virtual pitch day.

The grant opportunity plans to award 5-6 grants, with each award ranging from $75,000 to $100,000 and a 12-month performance period (10 months of research and 2 months for final reporting). The research is part of the Air Force Defense Research Sciences Program (CFDA 12.800), which supports fundamental and applied scientific research to maintain technological superiority for the United States Air Force and Space Force.

Synopsis

This CALL is open to U.S. Universities only. The purpose of this CALL is to solicit leading-edge research from academic collaborators that currently do not have a relationship with AFRL/RW via existing contract/grant. However, AFRL/RW will consider all U.S. Universities' proposals. AFRL/RW intends to award short-term seedling projects in two research areas. Offerors shall propose against ONE research area topic only. Only those Offerors who meet the highly selectable and/or selectable categories will be invited to the virtual pitch day. The Government is anticipating Distribution A (Publicly releasable) classification for this call; proposals with other classification levels must be marked appropriately.
