About this opportunity

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) seeks proposals through December 15, 2023 for its Ultra-Wide BandGap Semiconductors (UWBGS) program under Assistance Listing Number 12.910 for Research and Technology Development. The goal is to develop foundational ultra-wide bandgap semiconductor materials and electrical contacts for power electronics operating at higher voltages, frequencies, and temperatures. Proposals must address developing large-area substrates with thermal conductivity over 300 W/mK or doping and contact fabrication technologies, and will be evaluated based on technical approach and transition potential. Awards are expected to be announced in July 2024 for up to 36 months subject to appropriations and progress.

While total budgets are unspecified, DARPA intends to fund multiple awards over five years to support both academic and private sector research. Acceptable places of performance include applicant laboratories and facilities.

Synopsis

The UWBGS program will develop foundational, high-quality ultra-wide bandgap (UWBG) materials and electrical contacts necessary for realization of practical electronics that enable UWBG applications.
