About this opportunity
The Tribal Colleges Research Grants Program (TCRGP) is a competitive grant opportunity offered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Institute of Food and Agriculture. The program aims to assist 1994 Land-Grant Institutions (Tribal Colleges) in building their research capacity through applied projects that address student educational needs and meet community, reservation, or regional challenges. Collaboration with 1862 or 1890 Land-Grant Institutions, the USDA Agricultural Research Service, a Non-Land-Grant College of Agriculture, or a forestry school funded under the McIntire-Stennis Cooperative Forestry Research Program is a requirement. Eligible institutions may propose projects in any discipline of the food, agricultural, or natural resource sciences, and applications will be evaluated based on their alignment with USDA's strategic goals around climate change, agricultural markets, food security, and rural/tribal community development.
The TCRGP offers five grant types ranging from $150,000 to $3,000,000, with a total anticipated funding of $5 million in FY2025. The program has a three-phase submission process with deadlines in May, September, and December 2025. Projects must include student participation and be performed on or near tribal lands, often addressing issues specific to local ecosystems and communities.
