About this opportunity
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is soliciting applications for grants to prevent and reduce substance use and overdose among American Indian and Alaska Native youth and young adults through age 24, with applications due July 13, 2026. Eligible applicants are federally recognized tribal governments, non-federally recognized tribal organizations, and other eligible entities. The program supports prevention, early intervention, overdose response, and connection to treatment and recovery services through evidence-based and locally tailored strategies that build community-driven prevention systems, partnerships, and service infrastructure.
This opportunity is funded under CFDA 93.492 (Center for Substance Abuse Prevention Projects of Regional and National Significance). Awards are made directly by SAMHSA following merit review, program analysis, and concurrence by the CSAP National Advisory Council. Recipients must retain records for three years; extended retention is required if final audits remain incomplete or findings unresolved.
The program advances three core objectives: protecting and strengthening access to high-quality and affordable healthcare; expanding access to comprehensive, community-based, and innovative prevention programs and healthcare services; and promoting healthy behaviors among youth to reduce preventable injury, illness, and death. Award amounts, number of awards, and period of performance are determined as part of the Notice of Funding Opportunity.
