About this opportunity

This Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) from the Department of Health and Human Services' National Institutes of Health establishes an accelerated review process to support time-sensitive research evaluating new policies or programs that are likely to influence obesity-related behaviors, such as dietary intake, physical activity, or sedentary behavior, and/or weight outcomes. The research must demonstrate that the evaluation opportunity is both scientifically compelling and time-sensitive, with resubmissions not being permitted under this NOFO. The grant opportunity spans three CFDA programs: Cancer Cause and Prevention Research (93.393), Diabetes, Digestive, and Kidney Diseases Research (93.847), and Child Health and Human Development Research (93.865). Eligible applicants include a wide range of organizations, such as higher education institutions, government entities, tribal organizations, nonprofits, and small businesses.

The intended award period is within 4 months of the application due date, though administrative requirements and other unforeseen circumstances may cause delays. The funding opportunity does not specify exact award values, but typical project grants under the associated CFDA programs range from approximately $40,000 to over $2 million annually, with project periods spanning 1-5 years. The research is expected to be conducted primarily at the recipient organizations' facilities across the United States.

Synopsis

This Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) establishes an accelerated review/award process to support time-sensitive research to evaluate a new policy or program that is likely to influence obesity related behaviors (e.g., dietary intake, physical activity, or sedentary behavior) and/or weight outcomes in an effort to prevent or reduce obesity. This NOFO is intended to support research where opportunities for empirical study are, by their very nature, only available through expedited review and funding. All applications to this NOFO must demonstrate that the evaluation of an obesity related policy and /or program offers an uncommon and scientifically compelling research opportunity that will only be available if the research is initiated with minimum delay. For these reasons, applications in response to this time-sensitive NOFO are not eligible for re-submission. It is intended that eligible applications selected for funding will be awarded within 4 months of the application due date. However, administrative requirements and other unforeseen circumstances may delay issuance dates beyond that timeline.
