The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration is soliciting applications for the Sober Truth on Preventing Underage Drinking Act Grants program, with an application deadline of July 15, 2026. SAMHSA will accept and review only the first 60 complete, successfully submitted, and high-quality applications received via eRA; once this threshold is met, the submission portal will close and no further applications will be considered.
The program aims to prevent and reduce alcohol use among youth and young adults ages 12 to 20 in communities throughout the United States. Eligible applicants include state governments (including the District of Columbia and U.S. Territories), local governments, federally recognized Indian tribal governments, institutions of higher education, nonprofit organizations including community-based service providers, quasi-public nonprofit organizations, and Native American organizations.
Awards are made directly by SAMHSA following merit review, program analysis, and concurrence by the CSAP National Advisory Council. The program operates under CFDA 93.492 (Center for Substance Abuse Prevention Projects of Regional and National Significance). Award values, funding floors, ceilings, and expected number of awards are determined as part of the Notice of Funding Opportunity.
Recipients must retain records for three years; records shall be retained beyond the three-year period if final audit has not been completed or findings resolved. The program supports prevention and early intervention strategies to reduce substance use impact across communities by protecting access to high-quality affordable healthcare, expanding community-based innovative prevention programs and services, and promoting healthy youth behaviors to reduce preventable injury, illness, and death.
