About this opportunity
This Federal Grant Opportunity is seeking applications for the Small Grants for New Investigators to Broaden Participation in Health-Related Research (R21 Clinical Trial Optional) program, administered by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) and other participating NIH institutes. The purpose is to provide support for new investigators from diverse backgrounds, particularly those underrepresented in biomedical research, to conduct small-scale research projects in NIDDK's scientific mission areas. Eligible applicants include a wide range of organizations such as higher education institutions, nonprofits, small businesses, and government entities. The R21 grant mechanism supports different types of short-term, low-resource projects including pilot studies, secondary data analysis, methodology development, and new research technology. The application deadline is February 21, 2025.
The funding for this opportunity falls under three CFDA numbers: 93.847 (Diabetes, Digestive, and Kidney Diseases Research), 93.286 (Technological Innovations Research), and 93.172 (Human Genome Research). Specific award amounts and durations are not provided, but the R21 mechanism is intended to facilitate the transition to research independence for new investigators. The research activities are expected to be conducted at the recipient organizations' facilities across the United States.
