About this opportunity

The National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI), an NIH component under the Department of Health and Human Services, seeks a single-source cooperative agreement (U01 Clinical Trial Required) to establish a coordinating center for the Outcomes of Electronic Medical Records and Genomics (eMERGE) Genomic Risk Assessment and Management Network. Key requirements include extending patient follow-up from a minimum of one year to four years for approximately 25,000 participants who received genomically informed risk assessment (GIRA) results, assessing longer-term adherence to risk-reduction recommendations among clinicians and patients, identifying factors associated with intervention uptake across demographic groups and conditions, conducting data quality control and harmonization, and depositing data to public repositories including AnVIL and ClinVar. Applicants must manage the network-wide website and governance structure through a Steering Committee, support clinical sites with patient retention and data sharing, and develop dissemination plans for GIRA implementation findings and tools. Evaluation will be based on scientific merit, program relevance, and applicant qualifications, with applications reviewed by subject matter experts and an advisory council. The application deadline is February 6, 2026, with scientific merit review anticipated in March 2026, National Advisory Council review in July 2026, and the earliest start date in October 2026.

The maximum direct cost budget is $687,000 per year for a four-year project period (fiscal years 2026-2029), with up to $1,200,000 committed annually. The extended network support will continue through April 2030, providing sustained coordination across multiple clinical sites. Performance of the coordinating center functions will occur at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, the designated sole-source awardee, working collaboratively with multiple eMERGE Network clinical sites nationwide.
