About this opportunity
The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) is seeking continuation funding for the Accelerating Medicines Partnership (AMP) in Common Metabolic Diseases (CMD) Knowledge Portal, a curated repository and analytical platform that aggregates genomic, epigenomic, and omics data related to Type 2 Diabetes and common metabolic diseases. This non-competitive, single-source cooperative agreement is restricted to the Broad Institute, Inc., the current awardee, and requires the applicant to maintain and expand the portal as a publicly accessible resource for the scientific community to identify candidate genes, biomarkers, and therapeutic targets. Key objectives include expanding datasets and traits, importing additional data types, deploying new analytical and visualization tools, increasing utility to diverse user populations, and developing a framework for independent sustainability. Applications will be evaluated on five scored review criteria: Importance of Research, Rigor and Feasibility, and Expertise and Resources, along with additional considerations for human subjects protection, vertebrate animals, biohazards, and budget justification. The application deadline is March 10, 2026, at 5:00 PM local time, with scientific merit review in March 2026, advisory council review in July 2026, and an earliest project start date of October 2026.
The award will provide $15 million in total costs over a five-year project period, with a maximum direct cost budget of $2 million annually. The Broad Institute must establish a Steering Committee to oversee project implementation, maintain data quality and accessibility, and ensure rapid sharing of all developed data, protocols, resources, and methods with the research community in publicly accessible repositories in compliance with NIH's Data Management and Sharing Policy. Performance of work will occur at the Broad Institute's facilities, and all applications must be submitted electronically through Grants.gov with prior registration in the System for Award Management (SAM) and eRA Commons.
Synopsis
This non-competitive Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) is intended to fund a single award to the current awardee institution of the Accelerating Medicines Partnership in Common Metabolic Diseases Knowledge Portal (AMP CMD KP), the Broad Institute, Inc. The AMP CMD program is a collaborative partnership between the NIH, pharmaceutical companies, and nonprofit organizations to develop new models for identifying and validating promising biological targets to serve as biomarkers and/or for drug discovery (www.nih.gov/research-training/accelerating-medicines-partnership-amp/type-2-diabetes). This is a one-time NOFO to provide funds to the AMP CMD KP to continue the development and maintenance of the web portal and underlying, curated knowledge base; which serves as the flagship resource encompassing the myriad types of data and information that provide an understanding of the biological heterogeneity in patients with CMDs and their related complications. In its next five-year period, the AMP CMD KP will be expected to continue its expansion of its datasets and traits, import additional data types, deploy additional analytical and visualization tools, and increase its utility to a more diverse user base, and to develop a framework for independent sustainability. The application will be peer-reviewed and if it is not a meritorious application, it will not be funded.
