About this opportunity
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC) is soliciting investigator-initiated research to develop, implement, and rigorously evaluate primary and secondary overdose prevention strategies among populations disproportionately affected by overdose or at greater risk of adverse outcomes related to drug use. The proposed research should evaluate strategies that reduce rates of at least two primary outcomes, including nonfatal overdose, fatal overdose, substance use disorders, drug use, or initiation of drug use, particularly among youth. Eligible applicants include state, local, and tribal governments, higher education institutions, non-profits, and for-profit organizations. The application deadline is December 2, 2024, and the expected award date is August 29, 2025.
The funding opportunity provides two options: Option A will fund projects up to $350,000 per year for 3 years to implement and evaluate prevention strategies, while Option B will fund projects up to $700,000 per year for 5 years to develop, implement, and evaluate prevention strategies. The total program funding is expected to be up to $24.5 million, with up to 7 awards. The research will be conducted nationwide through partnerships with local organizations and communities.
