About this opportunity
The National Institute on Aging is soliciting applications for the renewal of the Clinician-Scientists Transdisciplinary Aging Research (Clin-STAR) Coordinating Center, a U24 cooperative agreement with an application deadline of September 29, 2026. This is a single-award opportunity with total federal costs of $1.5 million committed for FY 2027 and a 5-year period of performance; clinical trials are not permitted under this mechanism.
Eligible applicants include higher education institutions (public and private), nonprofits with or without 501(c)(3) status, for-profit organizations, state and local governments, tribal governments (federally and non-federally recognized), special district governments, and certain other entities. Foreign organizations and non-domestic components of U.S. organizations are not eligible; however, foreign components of U.S. organizations as defined in the NIH Grants Policy Statement are allowed.
The Clin-STAR CC serves as a national resource for clinician-investigators across specialties and disciplines who focus on aging research. The center conveys scientific and research knowledge on aging, fosters networking and collaboration among clinician-scientist leaders and emerging clinician-investigators, provides mentoring and career development support for emerging clinician-scientists, and advances interdisciplinary research projects in aging. The next 5-year funding period will support expanded functions including augmented leadership representation across clinician-scientist disciplines, enhanced geographic representation, novel approaches to reach underserved institutions, and special pilot funding and mentoring programs. A key priority is increased focus on promoting geographic representation and a breadth of clinical disciplines among early career clinician-scientists in aging research.
Applications are assigned to Aging Research (CFDA 93.866) and Trans-NIH Research Support (CFDA 93.310). The application opens August 29, 2026, with scientific merit and advisory council review scheduled for March 2027 and an earliest start date of May 2027.
