About this opportunity
The Renewable Resource Extension Act National Focus Fund Projects (RREA-NFF), administered by the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture, seeks extension projects that enhance the longevity of U.S. forest and rangeland resources by making relevant scientific findings available to landowners and managers. Applicants must be 1862 Land-grant Universities, 1890 Land-grant Universities, or 1994 Institutions offering forestry degrees operating in cooperation with State Cooperative Extension Services, and Project Directors must hold a formal extension appointment authorized by their institution's Extension Director. The program prioritizes two focus areas: Tree Planting Establishment/Reforestation addressing forest health threats from wildfire, drought, and invasive species, and Animal Invasive Control and Management targeting highly reproductive species such as feral pigs. Applications will be evaluated using a two-stage process comprising administrative screening followed by peer review based on four criteria: project justification (15 points), project merit (30 points), project relevance (30 points), and project personnel/facilities/timeline/evaluation (25 points). The application deadline is 5:00 P.M. Eastern Time on June 8, 2026, with submissions required electronically through Grants.gov using the SF-424 R&R form package; no Letter of Intent is required.
Approximately two grants ranging from $130,000 to $150,000 each will be awarded, totaling approximately $300,000 in available funding for Fiscal Year 2026, with a 24-month project duration and a project start date no later than September 30, 2026. No cost-sharing or matching funds are required, no indirect costs are authorized, and no subawards exceeding 50 percent of total award dollars are permitted without prior approval. Project narratives must not exceed 12 single-spaced pages and must include a detailed data management plan, logic model, evaluation plan, and demonstration of how the project will be replicated by other institutions and sustained beyond the project period.
