About this opportunity
The Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Community Living through the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR) is seeking applicants to establish one Rehabilitation Research and Training Center (RRTC) focused on employer practices leading to successful employment outcomes among people with disabilities, with applications due July 29, 2026.
Eligible applicants include states, public or private agencies and organizations (including for-profit entities), institutions of higher education, Indian tribes, and faith-based or community organizations. The program has no cost-sharing requirement. NIDILRR will make one award of $925,000 per budget period (within a $920,000 to $925,000 range) across five 12-month budget periods, for a total 60-month project period from September 1, 2026 to August 31, 2031. The indirect cost rate is capped at 15%.
The RRTC must conduct research addressing one or more priority areas: workplace factors affecting hiring and retention of employees with disabilities; building recruitment pipelines; developing and testing practices supporting career growth and promotion; and supporting small and medium-sized businesses in recruiting and retaining employees with disabilities. Research must include at least one project at the intervention efficacy or scale-up evaluation stage, involve people with disabilities and employers in all research activities, provide technical assistance and training as a national resource center, and conduct a state-of-the-science conference by year four with a comprehensive report by year five.
Applications must be submitted through Grants.gov and include a project abstract (one page), project narrative with work plan (80-page limit), budget justification, data management plan, commitment letters, and required federal forms (SF-424, SF-424A, SF-424B). An optional notice of intent is due July 13, 2026. The award is authorized under Title II of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. CFDA 93.433 applies.
