About this opportunity
The Department of Energy (DOE) National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) is seeking applications for the Regional Scale Collaboration to Facilitate a Domestic Critical Minerals Future: Carbon Ore, Rare Earth, and Critical Minerals (CORE-CM) Initiative. This funding opportunity aims to develop a regional-scale understanding of critical minerals prospectivity and identify potential materials that can be sourced from domestic secondary and unconventional feedstocks across the United States. The work will contribute to a framework that addresses economic and supply chain barriers, leads to pilot-scale demonstrations, and broadens the scope to include advanced carbon or critical mineral-bearing material products. Applicants must demonstrate their ability to form regional coalitions and execute the planned research and development activities.
DOE expects to make up to $60 million in federal funding available, with up to $7.5 million per award and a maximum 80% DOE cost share. The anticipated project period is 36 months. Awards will support DOE's mission to minimize the environmental impacts of fossil fuels and advance the domestic critical minerals supply chain.
