About this opportunity

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is forecasting a grant opportunity to support investigator-initiated research proposals evaluating primary prevention approaches to reduce suicide and interpersonal violence among youth and young adults (ages 10 to 24 years); additional eligibility information will be included in the forthcoming NOFO.

Eligible applicants include tribal organizations (federally and non-federally recognized), nonprofits (501(c)(3) and non-501(c)(3)), higher education institutions (public and private), city and township governments, county governments, tribal governments, state governments, independent school districts, for-profit organizations, special district governments, public or Indian housing authorities, small businesses, and other entity types. Only one application per eligible state or territory will be funded. Funded recipients must have access to state or territory-wide data sources.

The program funds evaluation of existing primary prevention approaches (programs, policies, or practices) already developed, implemented, or ready for implementation that have not undergone rigorous evaluation. Applicants may propose to evaluate approaches that reduce suicide-related outcomes by enhancing social connectedness and social cohesion at the community level, reduce or mitigate the impact of unhealthy behaviors or experiences in online spaces on suicide-related outcomes, or reduce the incidence and harm caused by technology-facilitated interpersonal violence.

Financial assistance is provided for a 12-month budget period with a period of performance of up to five years, subject to availability of funds and satisfactory progress. Non-competitive renewal is available contingent on satisfactory progress. Award magnitudes for research grants typically range from $300,000 to $1.2 million. This opportunity is funded under CFDA 93.136 (Injury Prevention and Control Research and State and Community Based Programs).
