About this opportunity
The National Institutes of Health seeks applications for research on population approaches to reducing alcohol-related cancer risk, with applications due January 7, 2027. This R01 grant opportunity is open to a broad range of eligible applicants including higher education institutions (public and private), tribal organizations (federally recognized and not federally recognized), state and local governments, nonprofits of all types, for-profit organizations, small businesses, and special district governments, as well as Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian serving institutions, HBCUs, Hispanic-serving institutions, AANAPISIs, TCCUs, faith-based and community-based organizations, regional organizations, eligible federal agencies, and non-domestic entities.
The NOFO supports interdisciplinary research addressing awareness of alcohol-cancer relationships, social norm change related to alcohol consumption, alcohol policy development and evaluation, and population-level intervention development, testing, and implementation to reduce alcohol-related cancer risk. Applications addressing multiple consumption levels including moderate and heavy drinking receive particular emphasis, as do proposals focusing on alcohol use disorder from a cancer prevention and control perspective. The program prioritizes proposals targeting understudied areas and underrepresented minority populations experiencing cancer and alcohol-related disparities, including American Indian, Alaskan Native, and sexual and gender minority populations.
Research will be evaluated on scientific and technical merit, program relevance, and alignment with National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism and National Cancer Institute priorities. The opportunity is administered under Assistance Listing 93.273 (Alcohol Research Programs) and 93.396 (Cancer Biology Research). Award amounts, number of awards, cost share requirements, and period of performance are not specified in the source material.
