About this opportunity

The Department of Justice Office for Victims of Crime is soliciting applications for FY 2026 Services for Victims of Crime grants, with applications due June 23, 2026. This opportunity funds development, expansion, and strengthening of victim service programs serving all crime victims nationwide and in U.S. territories, with human trafficking projects explicitly ineligible.

Eligible applicants include states, local units of government, tribal governments (federally recognized and not federally recognized), tribal organizations, counties, cities, townships, independent school districts, special district governments, public and private higher education institutions, public or Indian housing authorities, 501(c)(3) nonprofits, and non-501(c)(3) nonprofits.

Supported services directly addressing crime victim needs include emergency assistance, case management, shelter and housing, medical and dental care, victim advocacy, transportation, childcare, legal services, and employment assistance. The program serves child and youth victims, victims of elder abuse and fraud, and other crime victim populations.

Awards are made through competitive discretionary grants funded by deposits into the Crime Victims Fund. Historical awards under this program (CFDA 16.582) range from approximately $163,224 to $2,000,000, with most project grants between $200,000 and $500,000 over three-year performance periods. Approximately 85 awards were issued in the current funding cycle.

Review procedures include eligibility and responsiveness, merit, programmatic, budget, and risk assessments. The Assistant Attorney General makes final award decisions. Successful applicants must accept or decline awards within 45 days of notification via JustGrants. Standard Form 424 must be submitted electronically at Grants.gov by nonfederal entities. Awardees must retain records for three years from final expenditure report submission and comply with 2 CFR 200 and DOJ audit requirements. Unspent funds may be expended during the three succeeding fiscal years; remaining unobligated sums revert to the Crime Victims Fund.
