About this opportunity
The National Institutes of Health National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) is soliciting applications for ORACLE 3C: Chronic Conditions, Coinfections, and Comorbidities in HIV, a DP2 mechanism award supporting early-career investigators conducting pioneering research on HIV-related chronic conditions, coinfections, and comorbidities (3C); no hard application due date is specified in the source material.
Eligible applicants include state governments, county governments, city/township governments, special district governments, tribal governments (federally recognized and not federally recognized), public and private higher education institutions, independent school districts, public or Indian housing authorities, small businesses, for-profit and non-501(c)(3) nonprofits, 501(c)(3) nonprofits, Indian/Native American tribal organizations, eligible federal agencies, U.S. territories or possessions, faith-based or community-based organizations, regional organizations, and non-domestic entities.
The program prioritizes transformative research on HIV 3Cs in pediatric and maternal populations, with particular emphasis on understanding HIV-specific pathways and mechanisms to develop preventive and therapeutic strategies. NICHD explicitly welcomes a pipeline of innovative researchers from mathematics, engineering, computer science, and artificial intelligence disciplines. Research must be consistent with Office of AIDS Research (OAR) scientific priorities and distinct from existing concepts and approaches.
Evaluation criteria include significance of the proposed research, approach, innovation, investigators, and research environment. The opportunity is assigned to CFDA 93.865, Child Health and Human Development Extramural Research. No cost share requirement, award ceiling, award floor, or expected number of awards is specified in the source material.
Forecast synopsis
NICHD will advance its mission by using the DP2 mechanism to support early-career investigators conducting pioneering research on HIV-related chronic conditions, coinfections, and comorbidities (3C). Scientific directions will be distinct from concepts and approaches already pursued and consistent with the scientific priorities of the Office of AIDS Research (OAR). HIV-related 3Cs cause significant and different pathology in people with and without HIV. Development of preventive and therapeutic strategies based on understanding HIV-specific pathways and mechanisms, and implementing those strategies is critical, especially in pediatric and maternal populations. All pediatric and maternal populations will be appropriate for study as the focus is on HIV prevention and/or treatment research. A pipeline of innovative researchers from other fields of research including mathematics, engineering, computer science, and AI will bring new ideas and innovative approaches. This NOFO will advance research on an important public health problem by supporting transformative research on HIV 3Cs by investigators in the early stages of an independent career.
